Most of the time Howie appears to be quite a charmer on first encounters, but people do tend to end up calling him something quite different in the end. Well, being honest, they might have grounds for this. Howie has plenty of spirit and quite regularly tends to put up a show to have things his way. But this mostly only applies to "regular people", he works well together with Mike and needs to have a really bad day to mess around with him.
This means that when Mike's the other part of the team you'll see little moodiness at most. With Zack things do get done in quite reluctant cooperation, but mostly without major hazards to anyone. Will has the skill and determination to do the same, but he has chosen to keep things at ground level - there's no battle of wills this way. Others, even those Howie encounters on regular basis, can never really know for sure what's coming; it can be controllable charmer or pretty much out of control feisty spirit, so no one really even tries unless it's really necessary. The feisty spirit goes for other horses too, Howie isn't one to be kept too close to others unless there's sturdy fence in between. He does do friendly sniffing and such over the fence, but when he gets enough of the one doing that with, things tend to get more or less feisty.
So Howie doesn't quite fit the regular easy going QH personality, but since it's not completely over the top and he happens to be quite exceptional performance horse, everyone are just fine with his quirks. Such a fine horse deserves to be from a little different mold.
