Custom content
Custom content possibly seen in the DWH pictures is mainly from three sources. Most of the non-equine stuff is from Mod The Sims, some items/accessories from The Sims Resource and most equine related stuff is from the Equus-Sims community.
Mod The Sims - http://www.modthesims.info
Most definitely won't list everything I've got from MTS through the years, I have around 700 MB worth of cc and most of it has been acquired through this wonderful resource of custom content. Some main equine related game enhancements deserve a mention though.
Poseplayer (by cmomoney) + poseplayer add-on (by Misusuki).
One More Slot Please aka OMSP (by granthes)
Outdoor Lighting Tweaks (by dDefinder, self tweaked)
Pet leg size slider, three horse sliders, pet tail thickness, lots of spots, splotches, roan marking set, ferus marking set (all by PharaohHound)
The Sims Resource - http://www.thesimsresource.com
Mainly got decorative stuff from TSR, like paintings, plants and curtains, but also some fences/gates and equine friendly clothes for sims.
Equus-Sims community - http://www.equus-sims.com
Nearly everything horse related cc that "boosts" your equine experience in the game can be found through the community. If what you're looking for haven't been made by some community creator, you might still find it by asking or going through cc listing of equine related content available on various sources.
Equus-Sims - no shine tail fixes, hoof cube remover, markings, equine related decor
Equus-Sims Forum - markings, poses, sliders (most equine community cc can be found through here)
Morning Star Equestrian Sims - bridles, halters and other tack, jumps, trainers, poses
Spotted Acres - bridles and other tack, markings, jumps
Old Fellow Ranch - poses, markings, no shine tail fix
Lakeside Ranch - manes, tack, rider equipment
Paragon Farm - horse size slider, saddle pads
Nraas mods - http://nraas.wikispaces.com
I recommend having at least Master Controller and its cheats add-on. However, I've also found Consigner, Mover, Overwatch, Portrait Panel and Saver adding fair deal to the way I want to play. Take notice that, if you're aiming to have more than six pets/horses in a household, you'll need Master Controller with cheats and Portrait Panel.
Tuning mods
I also have several tuning/xml mods making the game more "my style" with their little tweaks. These are mainly from MTS or Shimrod or they are self made based on those available on these resources and own needs. If you don't play your stable as you would play "normal game", these aren't that essential for anything. You can achieve similar screen cap results and such perfectly fine without these.
